DHL Sweden Adds 20 Electric Trucks to Its Fleet

Sweden is a real pioneer in the electrification of road traffic. The same applies to DHL Freight Sweden. Its already high proportion of electric vehicles has increased significantly for deliveries in the greater Malmö area and throughout southern Sweden. This addition expands the range of environmentally friendly shipping options offered by DHL in Sweden.

20 Brand New Electric Trucks Shine in Bright Yellow under the Swedish Sun

DHL in Sweden already operates over one hundred electric vehicles. Conventional diesel trucks are gradually being replaced by fully electric alternatives. Now, a few more of these vehicles are rolling on the roads of southern Sweden for DHL. The new vehicles include smaller Mercedes-Benz E-Sprinter vans for deliveries in the greater Malmö area and heavy-duty E-Actros trucks that will cover entire southern Sweden.

The transport company Falkenklev Logistik AB acquired the vehicles to put on the road for DHL Sweden. Falkenklev is a long-standing forwarding partner of DHL Freight, primarily operating in Skåne, Sweden’s southernmost county. Like DHL, Falkenklev is committed to sustainability. In collaboration with Rifil, Falkenklev has established its own infrastructure for charging heavy electric vehicles. This infrastructure will soon be available at five locations in Skåne. Furthermore, Falkenklev produces its own electricity with solar panels.

This year, we expect to produce 1.5 GWh of electricity, and our goal is to become completely energy self-sufficient by next year. We all see what’s happening in the world. I have three young children at home, and I want to do everything I can to help create a better future for them.

Sustainable Services for Forward-Looking Companies

Customers in Sweden who select the “Skicka Grönt” (“Send Green”) option for their domestic shipments reduce CO2 emissions and help accelerate the transition from fossil fuels to emission-free transport. Similar to DHL Freight’s GoGreen Plus service in Germany, all additional costs from this service go directly and entirely toward the sustainable transformation, specifically toward investments in sustainable vehicles and fuels.

It’s a win-win situation: companies reduce their Scope 3 emissions with eco-friendly logistics solutions, improving their overall eco-balance. They also receive certificates, positioning them as sustainable market players.

The development of electric vehicles is progressing rapidly, with new innovations and smart solutions constantly being introduced. Fossil-free transportation is already available, and its market share is constantly growing – thanks to customers choosing ‘Skicka Grönt’ and transport companies like Falkenklev Logistik driving this development forward.

How You Can Benefit from GoGreen Plus

Climate change is the greatest challenge of our time – and it affects all of us. However, it is not equally easy for every industry and every company to reduce their respective ecological footprint. With GoGreen Plus, we offer you the opportunity to reduce emissions in a simple way thanks to insetting – exactly where they occur. Your investment goes 100% into the use of green technologies within our network.

Not Just in Sweden: E-Mobility Is on the Rise at DHL Freight

In Sweden and everywhere else, Mission 2050 is a joint effort by all DHL Group divisions to reach net-zero logistics-related emissions by 2025.

Thanks to favorable framework conditions, DHL Freight has made significant progress in electric mobility in Sweden, operating many fully electric routes. As early as 2021, DHL Freight and Volvo conducted a pilot test of heavy electric long-distance transport. These sustainability efforts have been consistently continued. For instance, a Volvo FH Electric was successfully deployed for long-distance transport in 2025.

However, DHL Freight is also demonstrating its commitment to all-electric short- and long-distance transport in countries south of Sweden. This includes testing electric trucks from BYD, as well as providing regular electric transportation services for the Hilti Group and Satair. We are using every available lever to become even more sustainable even faster. For example, we use a biogas-powered truck for Ivoclar and HVO fuel for the Manitou Group. In the long term, we are exploring the potential of hydrogen technology in transport logistics in projects such as H2Haul and HyCET.

DHL Freight is committed to making logistics as low-emission as possible. Each step, such as introducing new electric vehicles in Sweden, brings us closer to this goal.
