What does EDIFACT stand for?

EDIFACT stands for Electronic Data Interchange For Administration, Commerce and Transport. It is basically a standardised method of electronic data interchange amongst businesses.

UNECE defines EDIFACT as "a set of internationally agreed standards, directories, and guidelines for the electronic interchange of structured data, between independent computerised information systems.”

EDIFACT key components comprise of set of syntax rules used for structuring data, the interactive exchange protocol (I-EDI) and standardised messages that allow exchanges of data among countries and industries.
