Customs Agent

What is a Customs Agent?

A customs agent is a law enforcement office working on behalf of the government to carry out inspections on goods and people moving in and out of a country.

Depending on the country and region, the customs agent performs some of the following task:

  • protects the borders against smuggling
  • collects tariff and duties on imported goods
  • protects intellectual property rights
  • protects the interests of local market
  • protects the interests of local consumers
  • acts to fulfil international obligations
Customs agent is a law enforcement person working for the government.
