What is a Customs Agent?
A customs agent is a law enforcement office working on behalf of the government to carry out inspections on goods and people moving in and out of a country.
Depending on the country and region, the customs agent performs some of the following task:
- protects the borders against smuggling
- collects tariff and duties on imported goods
- protects intellectual property rights
- protects the interests of local market
- protects the interests of local consumers
- acts to fulfil international obligations
