DHL’s GoGreen Plus is an effective lever for reducing emissions in road freight transport. GoGreen Plus has now received recognition from the World Economic Forum. Within the framework of the “Downstream Solutions Challenge”, the program was honored as a winning solution for significantly reducing downstream Scope 3 emissions.
Companies Can Bring About Systemic Change
The World Economic Forum is best known for its annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland. Beyond this event, the foundation and its members engage in many other activities, one of which is the Alliance of CEO Climate Leaders. This Alliance is the world’s largest CEO-led initiative committed to achieving net-zero emissions.
Focus on Downstream Scope 3 Emissions
The Alliance has launched the Downstream Solutions Challenge, offering companies a platform to showcase their most effective and innovative practices for reducing downstream Scope 3 emissions. Focusing on these emissions is crucial because they are becoming increasingly relevant in sustainability and climate reporting. For the 133 members of the Alliance of CEO Climate Leaders, these emissions account for 67 percent of their total value chain emissions.
Harmonizing Ecology and Economy
Downstream Scope 3 emissions typically arise during the use, disposal, transport and distribution of sold products. The challenge lies in finding concepts that reduce emissions while creating business value, resilience, and long-term competitiveness. The following categories are seeking solutions:
- Sustainable Design
- Collaboration
- Smart Logistics
- Financing

Award for GoGreen Plus: More than 300,000 Customers Have Saved Over 1.5 Million Tons of CO2e
Smart logistics is a key area of the Downstream Solutions Challenge for good reason. Transportation and distribution are among the most prominent sources of downstream emissions. As global supply chains continue to expand, sustainable logistics has become a critical factor.
The Alliance appreciates how GoGreen Plus integrates sustainability into air, sea and road freight, and warehousing, thereby reshaping logistics. With carbon insetting, DHL avoids emissions directly within its logistics network. The program directly reduces emissions within the supply chain using renewable fuels such as HVO 100 and bio-LNG, battery-electric vehicles, and sustainable aviation fuel.
In 2024, GoGreen Plus saved 1,598,000 tons of CO₂e. The book-and-claim model enables the global scaling of this solution, which is already used by more than 300,000 customers of all company sizes and industries. It is truly a “winning solution” for smart, sustainable logistics.
