For 16 years now, DHL Group has been encouraging its employees to take part in Global Volunteer Day. The campaign is a worldwide success story, and this year’s response was once again outstanding: through voluntary initiatives, our colleagues take responsibility for society and the environment and set an example for more social solidarity. One of the numerous campaigns around the world saw DHL Freight employees get involved at the AWO Villa in Cologne.
Thanks to Our Employees, the Intergenerational Get-Together Has a Fresh Coat
For many years, the villa in Cologne’s Rodenkirchen district, which is run by the Arbeiterwohlfahrt (AWO) welfare organization, has served as a hangout for senior residents and a place where all generations can support each other, for example in the use of digital tools. Reading and gardening groups focus on simply enjoying each other’s company.
A socially valuable place – but one that urgently needed a makeover and a facelift. The AWO Villa could count on the support of DHL Freight employees. They lent a hand on the occasion of DHL Global Volunteer Day 2024. In addition to cleaning up, our colleagues painted the walls of a 70 square meter hall and a 30 square meter meeting room. There was also a garden shed that needed a fresh coat of paint.
It was an exhausting day, but everyone benefited from the shared joy of working for a charitable organization.
DHL Group Is Committed to Volunteerism
DHL Group promotes volunteer work to promote positive change in nature and society. An important pillar is the Global Volunteer Day, which was organized for the first time in the Asia Pacific region in 2008.
On Global Volunteer Day, employees from all DHL Group divisions and business regions join forces with local independent aid organizations to get involved in charitable projects and to get incentives for long-term volunteering. Since its inception, DHL Group employees have volunteered in areas such as the environment, disaster relief, education and vocational training, refugee aid, health and wellness, and social services. This is beneficial for nature and society, as well as for our own team spirit. Global Volunteer Day has become a powerful driver of employee engagement and team building.
