What is Gulf of Aden Surcharge?

Gulf of Aden Surcharge is an additional charge levied, in addition to the sea freight, on the shipment of goods that pass through the Gulf of Aden. The additional fee is charged due to the increase in the cost of operation, security and insurance on that particular shipping route. The surcharge is also referred to as "Piracy Risk Surcharge".
