Carriage Chargeable Weight
What is Carriage Chargeable Weight?
A carriage chargeable weight or volume weight is the total weight of a shipment. The transport costs of an order are calculated based on this information. When determining the freight rate, the forwarder calculates the theoretically optimal ratio of weight and volume (L x W x H) in order to fully utilise a means of transport.
The weight subject to freight charges corresponds either to the weighing weight or the volume weight of a shipment. The higher is always taken as the basis for calculation. Example: 500 kg paper rolls require considerably more loading space than 500 kg steel. In this example, the volume weight of the paper rolls would therefore be used as the basis for calculation and the pure weighing weight for steel.
