f. l. t. r.: Daniel Schümmer – Global Head of Certification DHL Freight, Tim Breithaupt – Key Account Manager Germany (DEKRA Certification GmbH), Holger Schneemann – Chief Sales Officer DHL Freight, Axel Dröge – Head of Sales (DEKRA Certification GmbH), Melanie Bauch – Manager Strategy & Projects Global Sales DHL Freight

DHL Freight has been awarded GDP compliance certification. This allows us to offer our life science & healthcare customers in over 20 countries transportation products and services that meet the high standards of good distribution practice (GDP) in the pharmaceutical industry. With the GDP certification, DHL Freight is now also your competent and reliable partner in pharmaceutical logistics.

What the GDP Certificate Means for You

The EU Directive on Good Distribution Practice (GDP) for medicinal products for human use was introduced in 2013 to provide seamless control over the entire supply chain of finished and intermediate pharmaceutical products. High demands are being placed on those involved in pharmaceutical logistics: from temperature and humidity control in vehicles and warehouses to the IT networking of cold chains with serial number tracking. Documentation and monitoring along the entire supply chain ensure compliance with due diligence.

The certification body Dekra has granted DHL Freight the GDP certificate for more than 20 countries. The certificate is valid in all countries, business units, and locations where DHL Freight and its subsidiaries offer GDP-compliant FTL transportation. This works even worldwide: customers can send GDP shipments from any country to all countries in the world with the help of our specialists from the “DHL FoodLogistics GDP Control Tower”.

GDP certification is a proof that the manufacturer-specific storage and safety requirements for pharmaceutical transports are met at all times.

We are very proud to expand our transport portfolio for life science & healthcare customers with the GDP compliance certification. We can now offer temperature controlled FTL transportation in more than 20 countries in Europe and comply with the strict requirements for pharmaceutical transportation.

More Service for Our Lifescience & Healthcare Customers

When it comes to pharmaceuticals, special care is vital. We at DHL Freight are aware of these particular requirements and responsibilities.

This is what GDP-certified pharmaceutical transportation at DHL implies:

  • seamless end-to-end transport across national borders
  • use of tracking modules to measure the temperature throughout transportation
  • regular internal training and audits to ensure operational compliance with GDP policies
  • a dedicated team of life science experts who competently represent the special interests of pharmaceutical customers in the sales organization

For DHL Freight, compliance with the GDP industry standard is paramount to effectively support this important industry. Our company-wide compliance training, policies, procedures, and internal standards ensure that we always adhere to these and other industry standards. Regarding GDP, management provides sufficient resources in terms of personnel and infrastructure to constantly maintain GDP compliance.

We are ready for your new customer experience in pharmaceutical transport.
