DHL Freight launches Centers of Excellence for electric vehicles in Germany. As of June, four electric vehicle Centers of Excellence operated by DHL Freight have commenced operations in Germany. From these four locations, we offer tailored solutions for the entire supply chain of electric vehicles (EVs) and lithium batteries.
The Centers of Excellence operate in four main areas:
Transport: Use of the existing Freight network for the transport of all EV components as well as lithium-ion batteries.
Finished Vehicles: Specialized services for the transport of prototype parts.
Aftermarket: Providing support and delivering spare parts for electric vehicles to dealers, including organizing battery shipments.
Battery Handling: Managing the transport of hazardous goods via the Freight network, including non-dangerous (green category) batteries.
Proximity to auto manufacturing
DHL Freight pools its expertise in the Centers of Excellence, using the Freight network for transport operations as well as specialists in electric vehicles. The centers serve Freight’s automotive customers and are optimally located in the vicinity of large auto manufacturers.
From its Wustermark and Berlin City terminals, Freight transports steering wheels and chassis for a well-known electric vehicle manufacturer. The team in Hanover mainly focuses on EV tire logistics for a well-known German automotive manufacturer. Neutraubling serves a major German automaker that produces an entire line of EVs for private customers.
Two electric trucks handle the transport for us and our terminal is equipped with a heat pump, photovoltaic system and EV charging stations. We are experts in EV logistics and, at the same time, demonstrate our own commitment to sustainability. It’s the perfect combination.

Complete visibility with the Control Tower
One special feature is Freight’s Control Tower concept. Automotive customers have a single point of contact who supports them with any questions they might have and ensures centralized coordination and visibility across all transport activities. This ensures not only the precise planning and monitoring of deliveries, but also allows the team to respond quickly to unforeseen developments.
The concept of the EV Center of Excellence is about more than just transport solutions and services. Our goal is to optimize the entire EV supply chain, deliver innovation, and contribute to more sustainable mobility.
